When one reaches a certain age, their fashion has to move into that age. Unfortunately many celebrities try to hold on to their youth a little longer than what I think is acceptable. What’s your take on it ? Are these celebrities too old to pull it off ?
Jane Fonda. A Fedora, Scarf AND Ripped Jeans ?
Ricky Lauren. Taking Ralph's Menswear look a Little Too Far ?
Anna Dello Russo. What the (beep) is on your head ?
With winter finally winding down (we hope), this year’s NYFW has been a treat for the senses. The designers went full out to drag us from the gray, drab snow and slush streets to the warm, bright pops of color. I for one cannot wait to wear these colors, or for that matter spring itself.
The Original Celebrity Impersonators Convention is this week, February 21 – 25, 2011 at the Golden Nugget in Las Vegas.
The Reel Awards 20th Annual event is an entertaining two-hour show that features guest Emcees and Live Performances similar to other Hollywood style awards shows; to recognize the talents and achievements of outstanding individuals or groups who perform in the field of impersonation. If you didn’t get an invitation to the Oscars or if you missed the Grammy’s then this is your chance to experience the fun of a Hollywood style awards show! Sounds like a lot of fun to me.
My designer crush, Christian Siriano, has yet again added another notch in his golden sash by banding with Spiegel. His collection consists of 12 pieces. The designs will make their debut in April for a short time only. If you love Christian as much as I do, you will pre-order these pieces before they disappear like a sweet dream. The collection is priced from $49 to $599. You have to admire a man who just wants to spread a little fashion love. Here is a sneak peek.
Permanent tattoo makeup never smears, is always perfectly placed and can be a complementary look to your natural lip color. Eyeliner, shadows, brows, uneven hairlines and lip color are all examples of permanent tattoo makeup, but is it right for you ? What happens if you change your mind, what if your ‘artist’ makes a mistake, do you have allergies ? These things play havoc with me. I surely don’t want to walk out with pencil thin, highly arched Betty Davis eyebrows making me look surprised all the time. It’s not an inexpensive undertaking and infection is the biggest possible risk. There is something to be said about waking up late, washing your face and hitting the ground running. I don’t know, maybe I’ll stick to the old advertisement “Maybe she’s born with it. Maybe it’s Maybelline.”
Every year when the weather starts to warm a little, my thoughts turn to getting a new haircut. I have had so many looks over the years, and some I that I wore a hat for several weeks to wait for the initial grow out. Short haircuts are stylish and make a statement about you, and some women look amazing in them. I personally do not. Even major fashion icons and celebrities have turned to short hair. Let’s have a look and maybe you may see yourself in one of these cuts this spring.
There were more fur coats on the runways of Peter Som, Prabal Gurung and Adam by Adam Lippes than in recent seasons. Alexander Wang had a leather trench coat with a strip of mink running entirely down the back.
PETA used to crash parties at Fashion Week, showing up to sling buckets of red paint at fur wearers or to sabotage runway shows. But during this year’s New York Fashion Week, PETA hosted a party of their own.
YES ! It's Faux !
The Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week kicked off, and compassionate fashion was celebrated at the PETA event held at Stella McCartney’s boutique in New York City.
“Project Runway” host Tim Gunn and actresses Taraji Henson and Olivia Munn have a “no fur” message for designers showing collections at New York Fashion Week.
“I’m on a campaign to get as many fashion designers as possible to stop using it,” said Gunn, chief creative officer of Liz Claiborne. “I’d just like to sit with them and have a talk and ask, ’Is it really necessary?’”
The three appeared at Stella McCartney’s boutique with representatives of People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals. McCartney is a longtime supporter of animal rights and doesn’t use leather or fur in her designs.
In 2010, Norway had taken one large step for small critters everywhere! Although the climate and culture of the country reflect fur in Fashion, Mote Mot Pels started an anti-fur initiative and won! With over 220 Norwegian Fashion industry insiders on their side refusing to work with fur, Oslo Fashion Week has banned any fur garments from their runways.
If Stella McCartney can work with PETA to convince and design a faux fur alternative to the bearskin caps worn by the Queen’s Guards at Buckingham Palace, surely designers that use fur for an entire coat, trimmings of a dress or a boot are able to develop a fiber they are happy with. After all, we are not cave people that need to hunt and forage to kill for our basic needs. We have evolved, at least I would like to think we have, but the runway has dampened my spirits.
February 11 of NYC Fashion week was again a sight for the senses.
The anatomical lines were blurred on the catwalk. Peter Som’s menswear inspired wool and double oxford’s were spiked with a little feminine sparkle, While young designer Jason Wu managed to make his boxy shapes look beautiful.

Costello Tagliapietra and Rebecca Taylor both chose looks that had definite retro vibes about them. Soft prints, dresses with fluttery sleeves, blue jeans, chiffon and bright colors gave us the hope that spring is right around the corner.

ALSO, in NYC today for those without the golden tickets to the runway shows, there is still plenty of inspiration to go around.

The technical name is Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week, but let’s not get hung up on that. The important thing is yesterday was the first day of designer shows in Manhattan, spotlighting their fall 2011 lines.
Christian Siriano catwalks were awash with elaborate sculpted silhouettes in inky blacks and earthy tones. His darkly romantic mood was set by ruffle-edge dresses and sheer skirts, which gave way to elaborate ball gowns with the fullest of chiffon skirts.
As expected, Johnny Weir took his front row place on time, ready to vogue for the cameras.
His unusual, usual choice of practical footwear left something (stilettos) to be desired, the controversial fashionisto brought plenty to send tongues wagging and eyebrows raising. Johnny is definitely NOT a friend of PETA.
Luca Luca designer Raul Melgoza chose this season to use a lot of color. Models were sent down the runway in bright looks like pink jumpsuit and beanie teamed with a bright orange fur jacket.
The trendiest girl in Hollywood, Leighton Meeser is Public Fashionista Number One. Leighton wore the French line Carven to promote her new movie “The Roommate” Carven was in L.A. this past weekend at Barney’s to show both spring 2011 and fall lines.
And finally,Amanda Brooks hire as the new fashion director of Barneys New York was just in time for her to sit front row at New York Fashion Week.
